HOW THIS DESK WORKS

How the COMESPORTSBUZZ desk operates

The editorial routine that runs every section of COMESPORTSBUZZ, from the morning brief to the corrections log.

The morning brief

Published at 06:00 IST, the morning brief summarises overnight football results, the day's cricket fixtures, the editor pick of the day and one correction from the previous day. The brief is written by the desk editor on shift, with input from the cricket, football and tennis correspondents.

The live desk

The live desk refreshes inside 30 seconds of every wicket, goal and set point. Score ticks, possession and run rate update on the same cadence as the official scorecard. The desk runs 24 hours, with overnight cover from the London and New York offices.

The corrections log

Every correction issued in the last 90 days appears on the corrections log, with the article link, the date of correction and the corrected text. The log is updated daily. We do not make silent edits.

The standards editor

The standards editor reviews conflicts-of-interest disclosures, signs off on the use of unnamed sources, and reviews every correction before it is published. The standards editor reports directly to the desk editor and has a separate escalation path to the publisher.

The data desk

The data desk maintains the live scoreboard, the standings tables and the verified stats referenced in every story. The data desk is staffed by two full-time editors and is supported by a network of stringers who cover regional cricket, lower-division football and the international kabaddi circuit.

The night brief

The night brief is published at 22:30 IST and summarises the day's results, the editor verdict on the day's three biggest matches, and a look ahead to the next day's fixtures. The night brief is written by the on-shift editor and edited by the standards editor before publication.

DEEPER COVERAGE

More from this desk

A closer look at the topics we cover most often.

Response times by department

Tips and corrections are confirmed inside 24 hours during the working week (Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00 IST). Out-of-hours messages are picked up the next morning. The standards editor responds to editorial complaints inside 48 hours, and the partnerships desk responds to commercial enquiries inside 5 working days.

Confidential tips sent to the encrypted email address are read by a named editor within 24 hours. The desk confirms receipt where the channel allows (email, encrypted contact form) but does not confirm receipt for anonymous drop submissions.

What to include in your message

For a tip: the player or story, the clubs or individuals involved, the source of your information, and any documents you can attach. For a correction: the article URL, the specific claim you believe is wrong, the correct information, and the source of the correct information. For an editorial complaint: the article URL, the specific concern, and the resolution you are seeking.

The more specific the message, the faster the response. Anonymous tips are accepted, but they are not prioritised over named-source tips unless the information is verifiable from public sources.

OTHER WAYS TO REACH THE DESK

What else to know

Social media

The COMESPORTSBUZZ desk maintains active social media accounts on X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. The desk uses social media to share links to published content, not as a publishing platform. The desk does not use social media to take tips or to respond to editorial complaints.

The social media accounts are staffed by the on-shift editor. The accounts are not monitored outside the working week. For urgent tips or corrections during a live event, please email the newsroom or call the dedicated tip line.

The tip line

COMESPORTSBUZZ runs a dedicated tip line during major live events. The tip line is staffed by the on-shift editor and is published on the standards page before each major event. The tip line is not staffed outside major live events.

Tips sent to the tip line are read by the on-shift editor within 15 minutes during a live event. The desk confirms receipt where the channel allows (voice call, SMS) but does not confirm receipt for anonymous submissions.

How the desk thinks about this topic

The COMESPORTSBUZZ desk has covered this beat for several seasons now. The approach has not changed much - source from the official scorecards, source from the press conferences, source from the verified beat reporters, and source from the people inside the dressing room. The desk does not run rumours, does not chase clicks, and does not take affiliate revenue from any sports operator, betting platform, fantasy app or ticket reseller.

The desk treats every story as a piece of reporting, not as a piece of marketing. The desk does not write "Top 10" lists that are paid for. The desk does not link to commercial endorsements. The desk does not use AI to write published content. The desk uses AI tools only for research, transcription and stat-checking.

The desk is editorially independent of the rest of the business. The standards editor reviews every correction before it is published. The publisher signs off on the annual conflicts-of-interest disclosures. The desk publishes its financial summary once a year on the about page.

The reader relationship

The desk treats the reader as an intelligent adult who has chosen to spend time with COMESPORTSBUZZ. The desk does not write down to the reader. The desk does not pad copy with marketing-speak. The desk does not use the word "leverage" as a verb. The desk does not use the word "unleash". The desk does not use the word "seamless".

The desk does use technical terms where they add precision - "expected goals" rather than "chances created", "net run rate" rather than "scoring rate", "PER" rather than "efficiency rating". The desk explains the technical terms on first use. After that, the desk assumes the reader knows what they mean.

The desk responds to reader feedback. The contact page has three addresses - tips and corrections, editorial complaints, and partnerships. The desk reads every email. The desk responds inside 24 hours during the working week. The desk acts on every correction request that meets the verification threshold.
